DAVID NICHOLS - ONLINE PORTFOLIO Introduction Since starting my career in 1999, I have had the opportunity to work in a number of different industries around the world, including positions in the finance/banking sector, government and online education, as well as more traditional technology/agency based roles. Recently, my experience has focussed on UX/UI design which is an area that I am passionate about, as it allows me to draw on all my past experiences to provide clients with the insight they need to improve their customer experience, conversion rates and ROI.

Experian Logo DECEMBER 2011 - APRIL 2013 User Experience Designer - Experian Australia Working within the Product Management team, I was primarily responsible for improving the usability and overall visual appeal of the Hitwise suite of online competitive intelligence products. Proving UI and UX expertise within an Agile environment, I worked closely with developers, customers and business stakeholders to improve customer retention and sales whilst mentoring a junior UX designer in Malaysia.

Using Axure RP, I was able to construct high quality wireframes and functional prototypes in a timely fashion. These wireframes were incrementally improved through a process which utilised both internal and external usability testing practises. For these tests, I was responsible for the end-to-end design and deployment of the test, the collection and collation of results and for providing recommendations to stakeholders.

Primarily responsible for evolving requirement/specification documents into wireframes and functional prototypes, my focus has been to heuristically improve the Bank's online user experience with the goal of creating Australia's premier online banking platform. Calling on my background in website design and mobile development, I have been a key contributor throughout the design phase of the NextGen program, producing a range of accessible Internet Banking components for both mobile and desktop delivery.

HSBC Logo AUGUST 2007 - OCTOBER 2009 Manager, Website Content - HSBC Bank Canada As a key member of the e-Business team, my responsibilities included the day-to-day management of HSBC's website and associated microsites, where I facilitated dynamic, multi-lingual content deployments (in English, French and Chinese), the design and deployment of email/banner campaigns and the technical implementation and reporting of Webtrends analytics/metrics data. Supporting the bank's SEO/SEM initiatives, I worked closely with their partner 6S Marketing and played an active role in the improvement of HSBC's customer acquisition/conversion rates.

Working directly with the marketing team, product owners and other key stakeholders, I was given the opportunity to focus on customer experience/acquisition through 2008-09. Utilising historical metrics data, available best practice research and live A/B testing, I facilitated the redesign/development of the Bank's online application process, a project that resulted in a sustained cost and productivity improvement for the Bank.

Enfield Logo DECEMBER 2005 - APRIL 2007 Web Developer - London Borough of Enfield Responsible for the redesign and information restructure of the Enfield Council website, I worked closely with senior staff to implement a changing series of requirements set by central government. With browser compatibility and accessibility being key criteria, I helped Enfield successfully achieve AAA conformance to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and ensured optimal browser compatibility. Utilising my ASP and SQL skills, I developed a number of applications in-house that not only saved the Council extensive resources, but also improved the overall user experience of their website and intranet services.
